Chemical Technology: Process Operations Option
|
|
Process technicians operate production plants, troubleshoot problems and conduct lab analysis-ensuring the plant is running efficiently and safe. They work with instrumentation to monitor flow, level, pressure, temperature and chemical composition.
Brazosport College offers very practical, real-world training using training units similar to the type of unit operations found in local area chemical plants.

Associate of Applied Science: 60 Credit Hours
Foundations
Foundations courses provide the footing for the remainder of the Associates Degree and beyond. They provide the knowledge and skills upon which the other courses will build. Whether attending full or part time, plan to complete most if not of Foundations prior to taking courses under Knowledge Building or Preparing for Completion.
Knowledge Building
Knowledge Building courses expand upon foundational learning and develop skills at a deeper level. It is recommended that students complete these courses prior to moving forward to Preparing for Completion.
Preparing for Completion
These courses provide capstone knowledge and skills, which prepares students for their next steps. Before beginning the third set of courses in this pathway, complete the Application for Graduation. You should also meet with your coach/advisor to begin preparing applications for transfer.
Notes
1. Students who plan to take PHYS 1301 should take MATH 1314 as their math requirement. The PHYS 1301 /MATH 1314 option is recommended for students who plan to pursue a four-year degree.
2. Internship/Apprenticeship/Employment positions are not provided by Brazosport College. Physical Sciences and Process Technologies Department can assist students in searching for local opportunities. Student must obtain their own internship/apprenticeship/employment which includes a minimum of 17 hours per week applicable to plant operations. Students may register in only one internship class per semester.
Enhanced Skills Certificate: Safety: 6 Credit Hours
An Enhanced Skills Certificate is an optional certificate associated with an AAS degree program that is intended to provide advanced skills, identified by business and industry, which are not part of the degree. ESCs are awarded concurrently with a degree but may not be considered to be an intrinsic part of the degree.
Process Operations Basic Certificate: 18 Credit Hours
Process Operations Advanced Certificate: 30 Credit Hours
The Advanced Certificate in Chemical Technology is a level two certificate (CERT2), defined as any certificate for which a student must meet certain eligibility requirements prior to entry into the program. Students enrolling in CERT2 programs are subject to the TSI requirements (college readiness).
