Admissions Requirements: Baccalaureate Programs

Admission applications will be accepted for review from all individuals who meet the following requirements:

1. College level skills in reading, writing, and mathematics as evidenced by approved placement testing (TSI Complete) or or a qualified exemption under Texas Education Code, §51.338 (§51.3062 prior to changes made by the 85th Legislature) and Coordinating Board rules, §4.54.
2. At least 30 semester credit hours from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. If applicable, prior learning assessment (PLA) credits may be awarded and factored into the credit hour requirement for admission.
3. GPA of 2.0 or greater in previously attempted coursework. GPAs less than 2.0 are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Admission to any bachelor’s program is based on grade point average (GPA), lower division coursework completed, as well as students’ personal statement. Since the baccalaureate programs have 5 starts a year (January, March, June, August, and October), applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed by the Baccalaureate Admissions Committee with a recommendation for admission being forwarded to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs for final decision. Notifications are generally emailed to the applicant.

Note 1: With permission of the Program Chair, qualified students who do not meet the admission requirements noted above may take up to six upper division credit hours, so long as they can meet the admission requirements by the next Fall or Spring semester following the completion of these 6 hours. The 6 hours of upper division credit may be counted towards the 30 credit hour requirement for program admission. Qualified students are those who have completed any necessary course prerequisites, at the college level in reading, writing, and mathematics (TSI complete) or qualified TSI exemption under applicable Texas Education Code and Coordinating Board rule § 4.54, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Note 2: Students wishing to apply previously earned credit to this degree must submit requests for substitutions within the first 5 terms of being enrolled in the bachelor program.

Note 3: Students accepted into a baccalaureate program must take a minimum of 1 upper division course (3000 or higher) per long semester (fall and spring) to remain in their program. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the student being reclassified as Associate degree seeking in the program they were in prior to bachelor admission. If the student entered the baccalaureate program following the successful completion of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and fails to enroll in at least 1 upper division course per semester, he or she will be reclassified as Associate degree seeking in a program best matching the courses selected by the student.
