Recommended Course Sequence - AAS in Criminal Justice - Peace Officer Specialty

Recommended Course Sequence - Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice - Peace Officer Specialty

The AAS in Criminal Justice - Peace Officer Specialty offers a clear pathway for individuals seeking careers in law enforcement. Designed for those who have completed a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)-approved Law Enforcement Academy (LEA), the degree applies twenty-three (23) credit hours earned through the Academy toward the program requirements.

While LEA credits are listed last in the course sequence, students may complete general education or criminal justice coursework before entering the Academy, allowing flexibility in planning.

This program prepares students with a foundational understanding of criminal law, policing practices, ethics, and professional communication. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and report writing-skills essential for effective law enforcement service.

The AAS degree is a state-approved credential preparing graduates for roles in municipal, county, or state agencies. The recommended course sequence, including summer terms, can be completed in two years of full-time study.
