Recommended Course Sequence - AAT EC-6 Option

Early childhood through Grade 6 educators guide children in exploring interests, building talents and independence, and developing essential social skills. Teachers in this certification area work with young learners across all subjects, using engaging, hands-on activities and interactive discussions to help them master core concepts in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. The AAT in EC-Grade 6 is a state-approved 60-credit program of lower-division courses that transfer to any Texas public university offering a bachelor’s degree leading to teacher certification in: Generalist (all core subjects), Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), and other approved content areas for EC-6. Please note that the degree requirements for the EC-6 Option and the Grades 4-8/ EC-12 Option are the same. This degree is designed as the starting point for a baccalaureate program leading to initial teacher certification. It also meets the paraprofessional requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. The course sequence below is the recommended pathway for students attending full time, including summer terms. This pathway can be completed in two years.
