2020-2021 Course Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]
Associate of Arts (General)
|
|
IN ORDER TO Be awarded the Associate of Arts degree at Brazosport College, a student must successfully complete a minimum of 60 semester hours including:
- All of the general graduation requirements that are listed under Graduation Requirements , of this catalog
- General Education Core
- 2 semester hours of science labs corresponding to Core science course selections
- At least 16 semester hours of academic electives
The Associate of Arts degree (AA) is a general education degree with an emphasis on the core academic requirements. The degree does not allow enough hours of concentration in a single discipline for students to declare a major; however, a series of suggested courses of study are listed so that students planning to transfer into four-year academic programs at other Texas institutions may receive the maximum number of transfer credit hours toward a planned baccalaureate major. Students are advised to check with Brazosport College counselors and faculty and with their transfer institution for additional counseling in choosing appropriate electives.

Foundations
Foundations courses provide the footing for the remainder of the Associates Degree and beyond. They provide the knowledge and skills upon which other courses will build. Whether attending full or part time, plan to complete most if not all of Foundations prior to taking courses under Knowledge Building or Preparing for Completion.
Knowledge Building
Knowledge Building courses expand upon foundational learning and develop skills at a deeper level. It is recommended that students complete these courses prior to moving forward to Preparing for Completion.
Preparing For Completion
These courses provide capstone knowledge and skills, which prepares students for their next steps. Before beginning the third set of courses in this pathway, complete the Application for Graduation at the Admission’s Office. You should also meet with your coach/advisor to begin preparing applications for transfer.
