The Brazosport College EMS Program adheres to the National Standard Curricula (NSC) as determined by the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT).  The Brazosport College EMS Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

The Brazosport College EMS Program is designed to prepare students for a career in emergency medical services. The program is both mentally and physically challenging. Due to the unique environment in which EMS personnel function, it is important to have a good understanding of the demands of the profession. Interested individuals are strongly encouraged to carefully review position descriptions and consider the commitment to perform essential job functions.

Successful course completion qualifies candidates to take the National Registry examination required for EMS Certification/Licensure by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

Available emergency medical services tracks include EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, and the Associate of Applied Science degree.

Program Requirements

  • Graduation from accredited high school or GED. This requirement is not exclusive for Dual Credit students.
  • For students attempting AEMT or Paramedic courses, proof of DSHS EMT Certification or the ability to gain certification within 30 days of beginning advanced classes.
  • Attend mandatory orientation on the first day of class.
  • Complete and submit Criminal Background Investigation.
  • Purchase required uniform. The uniform vendor is scheduled to fit students for required uniforms on campus in accordance with the course schedule. Payment is due at the time of order.
  • Proof of AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider course before scheduled clinical orientation.
  • Verification of immunizations to include hepatitis B vaccine, negative PPD skin test or negative chest x-ray Meningococcal, MMR, tetanus/diphtheria (within ten years), varicella, and influenza before scheduled clinical orientation.
  • Attend mandatory hospital orientations in accordance with the course schedule

Certifications, immunizations, and uniforms are at student expense.
