Brazosport College offers both Supplemental Instruction (SI) and Tutoring to support student success. These free academic support programs provide opportunities for students to strengthen their understanding of course material, develop effective study strategies, and improve their overall academic performance.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a peer-led academic support program designed to reinforce course concepts through collaborative, hands-on learning. SI Leaders, who have successfully completed the course-preferably with the same instructor-attend lectures, take notes, and facilitate interactive study sessions outside of class. These structured sessions occur three or more times per week and integrate “how to learn” with “what to learn,” helping students build confidence and retention of course material. Participation in SI is strongly encouraged, as students who engage in SI sessions tend to earn higher grades than those who do not.
Tutoring provides individualized academic support for students enrolled in supported courses. Available seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, these sessions offer flexible assistance tailored to students’ needs, including help with homework, test preparation, concept reinforcement, and study strategies.
