Distance Learning

In support of the College’s mission, the mission of the Distance Learning and Online Instruction department is to support student success and expand educational opportunities through developing, enhancing, and assessing quality online courses, student services, and faculty professional development in a data driven, collaborative, and diverse virtual community.

About Distance Learning

Distance Learning at Brazosport College offers educational opportunities for those in need of flexible hours and convenient access to a wide range of quality courses from the comfort of their own home. With availability to online support services and resources with a click of a button our Virtual Campus provides an excellent opportunity to achieve your educational and career goals online.

Brazosport College offers the following types on Internet based courses:

  • Online courses are those in which 85-100% is done online. In most cases, full or total online courses have no in-class time, everything from viewing lectures, participating in discussions, submitting assignments and quizzes usually done online. There are some courses though, which may require a face-to-face orientation, exam review, or in-person test.
  • Hybrid courses are those in which more than 15%, but less than 85% of the course is done online. Typically these courses offer a lab component or request attendance for a lecture on campus. Everything else, participating in discussions, submitting assignments, and quizzes are done online.
  • Supplemental courses are those in which less than 15% of the course is done online. Typically only course resources are available online, everything else takes place in the classroom.

Registering for Distance Education Courses

Students should first determine course availability prior to registration.  It is recommended that students who wish to take an online course register as soon as possible to ensure a spot in the class, as online course sections tend to fill quickly.  Registration can be done through the myBC system.
